Colombia will launch its first auction for Offshore Wind Energy projects this coming August
Recently, the Colombian Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez, stated during her visit to Portugal that the department of Atlántico will lead offshore wind energy generation projects. She also affirmed that the first offshore wind energy auction will take place in August, being the first in Colombia and Latin America.
"We have been organizing this since the first day we took office in the Government and the bidding documents for the auction will be ready in August. It concerns an area that will be subdivided and we think that between four and six wind energy generation projects will be able to fit there," said the official.
The minister's statement also covered the importance of supporting green hydrogen generation projects and their export potential to European countries.
It is important to emphasize that Colombia has already brought forward a roadmap to target the development of these projects. These studies, with the goal of allocating these concessions, are in the hands of the headquarters of the Sub-Directorate of Maritime Development of Dimar and the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
