LATAM Side Event during World Hydrogen Summit:
Renewable Hydrogen Business Opportunities in Latin America
Evento Cerrado
-Collaboration, trade and investment between Latin America, The Netherlands and Germany in Latin America’s emerging renewable hydrogen sector-
Thursday 22 May, 08:30 – 12:45
Venue: Ahoy, Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Latin America is poised to become a key player in the global renewable hydrogen sector, thanks to its abundant wind, solar, and hydropower resources. Its strategic access to shipping routes on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans places the region in a privileged position to supply renewable hydrogen and its derivatives to European and Asian markets. Many Latin American countries have already developed ambitious hydrogen strategies and are advancing hydrogen production and export projects at different stages of maturity. However, reaching the Financial Investment Decision (FID) remains a major challenge for many of these projects. Other key challenges include securing financing, obtaining off-taker commitments, and fostering local demand.
In Europe, Germany and The Netherlands are at the forefront of the renewable hydrogen sector. Both countries are positioning themselves as European hubs for import, production, and use of renewable hydrogen in the industrial and transport sectors. They are actively engaging in international partnerships and collaborating on the development of infrastructure for import, storage and transport of hydrogen and support mechanisms such as H2Global. Additionally, The Netherlands and Germany are global leaders in renewable hydrogen technology and are at the cutting edge of developing and exporting innovative solutions.
This session will bring together:
✔ Hydrogen project developers from Latin America
✔ Potential off-takers from The Netherlands and Germany
✔ Technology providers, investors, and service companies
Through presentations and discussion panels, participants will gain insights into the progress and challenges of Latin America’s hydrogen production and export projects. Individual match-making opportunities will be available for Latin American and German/Dutch businesses seeking international partnerships.
Organizers:
The session is organized by the Embassies of the Kingdom in The Netherlands in Latin America and their Regional Business Development (RBD) team and the International Hydrogen Ramp-up (H2Uppp) Programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany (BMWK) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Holland House Colombia and the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs).
About H2Uppp:
The International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) promotes projects and market development for green hydrogen in selected developing and emerging countries as part of the National Hydrogen Strategy.
